Dr Jason Cheah, MBBS, MMed, MSc, FAMDr Jason Cheah graduated with honours from the Faculty of Medicine, National University of Singapore in 1991. He began his postgraduate medical studies in internal medicine with an interest in geriatrics before turning to public health in 1995. He obtained his double Masters in Public Health and Healthcare Management from the National University of Singapore and the University of Wales in 1998. Since embarking on a career in public health, Dr Cheah has had a variety of experience related to health policy making and implementation, case mix implementation, quality management and patient safety, strategic planning and most recently, chronic disease management and health services research. Dr Cheah is credited to be the first to design and implement clinical pathways in hospitals and then in ambulatory settings in Singapore, and has helped to spread this to the Asian region. He then turned his attention to advocate for greater transparency in the healthcare system by promoting the use of clinical quality indicators and their publication. In 2000, he and a small team of healthcare professionals designed and implemented the first disease management programs in South East Asia for diabetes mellitus, hypertension, asthma, stroke, congestive heart failure, and chronic obstructive lung disease. Dr. Cheah has spoken in numerous conferences to promote and encourage the application of disease management program concepts and tools in various settings. He is also a part-time lecturer with the Faculty of Medicine, National University of Singapore and sits on the Council of the International Disease Management Alliance (IDMA) based in New Jersey USA. He has authored numerous international publications and abstracts on a variety of public health and healthcare management related topics. Dr Cheah has chaired the Singapore Disease Management Conference which is now recognized as a premier event in the international disease management conference calendar, attracting a large audience from the Asia Pacific Region. |
