Pablo Rivero Cortez

Mr. Rivero is a 35-year-old lawyer, economist and eHealth innovator. Born in Gijón (Province of Asturias in Spain), he has had a meteoric career, which has enabled him to hold leading positions within the private and public sector. He has been General Technical Director of the Ministry of Finance and Budgets, General Director of Project Coordination for the Autonomic Presidency and General Director of Planning and Financing for the Ministry of Health in the Baliaric Islands. At the same time, he was a member of the National Spanish Volleyball squad.
Before joining the Ministry of Health in Andalusia in late 2004, Mr. Rivero was the Territorial Director of Autonomic Development for the consulting firm Gedas S.A., a firm specialized in information and communication technologies, public sector management and industrial processes. Since his appointment as Director General of Innovation in the Ministry of Health in Andalusia, Mr. Rivero has led the development of the autonomic strategic plan on eHealth innovation, which is regarded as one of the most advanced in the world. It includes a state-of-the-art comprehensive and integrated clinical health information system; powerful multi-platform, multi-channel and multi-media public engagement initiatives; innovation banks; telehealth programs; and simulation- and virtual reality-based training programs. In May 2006, Mr. Rivero was the Co-Chair of the European High-Level eHealth Conference, in Malaga, which brought together most Ministers of Health and policy-making leaders from the European Union, to discuss common challenges and develop common approaches to meet them.
